We’re a family company that’s been blending tea in Yorkshire since 1886. Nowadays our tea’s enjoyed across the UK and beyond – but we’re still family-owned, and we like to do things properly. From the way our tea’s grown to how it’s blended, tasted and packed, we work really hard to look after the stuff that matters.

Charles Taylor's Legacy
Yorkshire Tea was born in the 1970s, but it was 90 years earlier that Charles Taylor and his sons founded the company. They bought the best teas and carefully created blends to suit the local water – and before long, C. E. Taylor & Sons became known for quality and flavour, picking up a gold medal at the prestigious London Grocery Exhibition in 1896.
Planting roots
Charles Taylor set up tea and coffee kiosks in towns around Yorkshire, and a flagship store at 1 Parliament Street, Harrogate. Famous across the region as a destination for tea lovers, today it’s the home of our sister company, Bettys, while we keep the Taylors tradition alive just across town, at the HQ known as Pagoda House.
A brew is born
In the 1970s, we decided to make a black tea blend that’d taste lovely in water from any tap across Yorkshire. We called it Yorkshire Tea… and we haven’t stopped making it since.
Tea takes a team
Our company, now called Taylors of Harrogate, has grown a bit since those early days. From the trainee tea buyers who spend years learning the craft and the people who keep our factory running, to the talented cooks in our staff cafe and the responsible sourcing team who work with suppliers to improve farm resilience and invest in impactful community projects every year.

We’ve grown a bit since 1886, but our independent values haven't changed. We’re still devoted to the art of tea. Blending it, selling it, making it – and keeping really high standards of flavour and quality. We believe the way we source our tea is as important as the tea itself. That means building long-lasting relationships with our key suppliers, and investing in them and their communities.

About Us
A Day In Our Life
Every day, our tea buyers carefully slurp and assess teas in their hundreds. And they’re just as rigorous about checking Yorkshire Tea before it leaves the building, tasting every batch to make sure it’s always perfect. It’s a dream job, but it takes years of training, tasting and travelling to hone their skills – and they never stop learning.

Yorkshire Tea’s the most famous tea that we make, but there’s a huge range of teas and infusions also created by the same people who make your favourite brew, from speciality black teas and green teas to fruit and herbal infusions. And true to Charles Taylor’s heritage, we still make really good coffee too.
