The Tea

Yorkshire Gold is a special black tea that's so splendidly satisfying, you'll have to have a nice sit down just to take it all in. If you love it half as much as we do, you might just have found your brew for life.

Caffeine in tea varies, but an average cup contains 43mg (based on 200ml water and 5 minutes of brewing.

The box

Yorkshire Tea boxes are made from cartonboard, which is made from trees – a renewable resource that can easily be replenished.

This goes in your paper and cardboard recycling.

The tea bags

The bags in all our original UK Yorkshire Tea boxes are plant based. Most of the bag is made from natural fibres like wood pulp and the seal is made with PLA - an industrially compostable, plant-based plastic which is made from cornstarch.

Please pop these in your kerbside garden or food waste bin. These don’t go in your home compost heap as they need quite a bit of heat and space to break down.

The outer wrap

This is made from oil-based plastic (polypropylene) - and we’re phasing it out across our range.
This isn't currently recyclable, so if the box you buy has an outer wrap, it should go in your normal bin, or you can take it to some supermarket collection points.

The pack

Our loose tea packs are made from a triple-layered mix of oil-based plastics, metallised polyester, polypropylene and polyethylene. We'd like to change this packaging once we've completed our tea bag material switch and removed the outer wrap on our tea boxes (both of which involve a higher overall volume of plastic).

This isn't recyclable, so it should go in your refuse bin.

We’re also members of the Ethical Tea Partnership – with them we are able to partner with our suppliers and other tea companies to develop and support initiatives at community level as well as responding to major social and environmental challenges that the tea industry still faces.

what is Yorkshire Gold

Yorkshire Gold is our luxury blend. Where Yorkshire Tea Original is made with teas from several countries in Africa and Assam in India, Yorkshire Gold is just from our favourite tea gardens in Kenya, Rwanda and Assam. There’s more Assam in the blend than in Yorkshire Tea, too, and our tea buyers would say it tastes smoother and more ‘brisk’. Thanks to the teas from Rwanda, it’s also more golden in colour. If you are drinking our loose leaf Yorkshire Gold, it is a blend of the finest Ceylon, Rwandan and Assam teas.
